Films to see  3

One pleasing side effect of my recent upgrade in mobility is the increase in cinema visits. It was always possible before but, as with most things, making it easier makes it more desirable.

My usual cinema going “buddy” is Matt, N’s (the carer) eldest nephew, although I actually met him at college many years ago, long before I met N herself. Nine times out of ten he drives us in my car and we are occasionally accompanied by his mum and/or one or more of N’s younger nephews.

Our next planned excursion to the Empire in Rubery is on Good Friday, 21st March, and we’re off to see 10,000BC. TheShiznit, my usual source for reviews, didn’t look upon it too favourably, but I’ll go in with my usual open mind and just enjoy what is bound to a spectacular looking film on the big screen. A decent story would be a bonus but I’m not that fussy!

Iron Man looks really good and I have to admit to being a bit of a Robert Downey Jnr. fan — he’s been good in most of his films and I really enjoyed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Plus, the added bonus of it being a comic book superhero film that will hopefully feature lots of humour and heavy metal (in more ways than one) sets my face on “grin”. The trailer is brilliant, let’s hope the full article follows suit.

Wall*E looks like one of those films I’m guaranteed to love and another one with an excellent trailer. As an online friend said: “Has more heart and soul in two minutes than all three Shrek movies combined.”

To be honest, I didn’t think I’d be that bothered about the new Indiana Jones film but the closer it creeps, the more excited I get. If the reports are true that Steven Spielberg has avoided CG wherever possible and mostly ignored George Lucas’s ideas then it should be a lot of fun. Add in the fact that my future wife is in it too and it should be a winner! If only they’d picked a better name …
