I Am Legend, AvP: Requiem, Cloverfield, Jumper  1

I Am Legend

I enjoyed this despite the ending, which a lot of people who’ve read the book complained about. Will Smith can act when he wants to and he does a very good “emotionally hurt” which made me ball my eyes out.

AvP: Requiem

I liked the first Alien vs. Predator, but I didn’t really like this. It seemed to me that virtually all the human kills had been shown in the trailer and, to be honest, I wanted all the people to die. The only reason it gets this score is because of the brief glimpse of the Predator home world.

Cloverfield

A clever film which was well made, but not only did the handi-cam view get boring quite quickly but it also gave me motion sickness so I only watched the good bits of the second half of it. I did like the complete lack of explanation for the monster(s) though.

Jumper

This was fun, if a bit short — it did seem to lack something though, apart from running time. I don’t think the action overplayed too much, which it could’ve easily been, and Jamie Bell was excellent and obviously had fun playing his part.

Comments

I agree with your comments, may have given avp:requiem 3 stars. Thought that it got back to the right formula, shame the monsters were mainly in the dark but must disagree about the predator homeworld, as they are crustacean-like surely they should live underwater and not on a red hot planet. ‘I am Legend’ was very enjoyable, computer animated monsters let it down but a good film. ‘Jumper’ promised so much and didn’t quite deliver although i thought it was a good idea and it held my attention. Something missing but can’t quite put my finger on it. ‘Cloverfield’ was cleverly done and i enjoyed it more than i thought i would having heard lots of rumours however all my mates seem to hate it. Plenty of scope for a sequel too. - Matt Pugh
