I am a happy geek  9

The other day I installed the Mac OS X 10.4.6 update and, as usual, didn’t pay a blind bit of notice to what it was actually fixing or updating, so it wasn’t until I saw a picture on Flickr that I realised that they’d added a load more phones to iSync support list, including my Nokia 6021:

iSync with Nokia 6021 support

I got the Nokia last year because it was one of the few phones around that didn’t take pictures or play music and, more importantly, it was free. What it does do, i.e. make and receive calls and messages, it’s very good at and it’s a lot better to use with Salling Clicker than my SonyEricsson Z600 was - with the Z600 you had to make the computer » phone connection from the computer so if they got disconnected you had to go back to the computer, which kind of defeated the object; with the 6021, however, you can make the connection from the phone.

Ahhhhh, I wish I could afford a Mac :’ { They’re more desirable now you can install Windows on intel based machines as well, especially for playing PC games ;) - Daniel Harper

Cool! do you know what other phones were added? any chance they added Nokia 6100? - LobsterMan

According to the list of supported devices, series 40 phones only work via Bluetooth which the 6100 hasn’t got. :^(. - Timmargh

Just wanted to read what you are up to now and admit to not understanding ANY of this jargon - Wendy Owens

Mum? Basically it means I can keep the names and numbers synchronised on my phone and computer with a click of the mouse. - Timmargh

I didn’t notice either and apparently my phone has been added to the list too: Nokia 6230i but having never used iSync and it refusing to find my phone am not sure what use it is. Am guessing it may be because my mac doesn’t have built in bluetooth and am using a 3rd party USB bluetooth dongle. I can transfer files with it but iSync keeps saying No devices found when i do a scan Did your phone just appear? - stonysleep

It found my phone straight away but quite often won’t connect when I sync - connecting and then disconnecting using Salling Clicker usually helps. I’m using a 3rd party Bluetooth dongle, too - a Matsui one. I vaguely remember reading about trouble with the 6230 - hang on … * does a Spotlight search * Aha, thought so - have a look at this: Use iSync with a Nokia 6230 with older firmware. - Timmargh

Thanks for that link Tim Sorry it took me ages to get back to you - only remembered the topic again this morning and it works a treat. Though I have had to spend the best part of an hour getting all the names in my address book to be the same as those on my mobile - oh, and i’ve also got a load of email addresses on my mobile that i’ll prob never use but hey at least now they sync! Next challenge - iCal and the calendar! - stonysleep

Glad I could help. - Timmargh
