Photography  5

Some of you may know that I have another site, *beep* *click*, where I put my favourite photos. Unfortunately, my recent lack of mobility and shortage of opportunities to take any pictures of any kind have driven me to give up on it (the site, not photography). I’ll still add photos to my Flickr account as there’s less pressure there to only post the best photos - you can upload any old trash and people will look at it!

Flickr itself is a fantastic site - if you’ve never been there or heard of it, it’s a huge community where people can upload their photos for the world and his wife to view and comment on. There are loads of great features like the ability to add tags (i.e. keywords) to each photo so people can search for pictures they want to see and groups you can join to share photos on a similar subject. You can add other people as contacts so you can keep track of new photos they add and you can mark any photo as a favourite - all the ones you do mark as favourite can be viewed on a single page to save you having to search back through to find the pictures you like. One particularly cool feature is the ability to draw boxes around subjects in the photo itself and add notes to them, so when someone hovers their mouse over that object they see the note attached to it.

Registration is free but there are limits to the number of photos you can upload each month and also you’re limited to the number of sets you can create. It’s well worth a look!

I’m sorry to say it, but *beep* *click* is no more.

Hi Timmargh, I have looked at Flickr, it’s a cool website but I always find registering with sites difficult though either because you have to go through to replying to an email they send you and sometimes my computer being AOL has difficulty in doing that task. I even had difficulty in creating a name for my blog but as you know it was successful! - Katie Fraser

The only problem I have with sites such as this is their huge expanse in users. There is no “personal” aspect to it, just a username and their pictures. Personal photoblogs have more of a personal touch :-) I hope you don’t abandon beep click completely! - Daniel Harper (gamesfreak)

I also hope you don’t abandon beep click, it was very cool and I like robbing your photos to use as desktop backgrounds so my PC can be original! - SoulSniper

Well … unless I have a chance to take some decent pictures then I’m gonna let it slide for now. With the trouble I’m having with my foot having no foreseeable end I don’t know if that’ll change at all. It might be that when (if!) my foot is finally sorted I’ll be desperate to get out and do loads of stuff - I’ve been out of the house exactly 3 times in the last 34 days! We’ll see … - Timmargh

It’s such a nice site, you don’t have to update it, but why close it. - LobsterMan
