Site design and photos

I got a message from the managing editor of Schmap telling me that one of my photos I’d posted on Flickr had been “short-listed for inclusion in the second edition of our Schmap England Guide, to be published late June 2008.” There was a link included which took me to their website so I could: a) see which photo has been selected, and b) decide whether to allow or withdraw it. I clicked on the link, all excited and ready to say “Yes! Please consider it!!” … and then I saw which photo it was. Was it one of the landscapes I took near Clee Hill? Or was it a black and white shot from the set my nephew took in Worcester? No, it was none of these. It was in fact a 17 year old picture of me sat on the beach at Weston-super-Mare. I very nearly clicked “withdraw” but then I thought “Bugger it, why not?” I’ll have to wait until after June 1st to see if it made it into the guide.
The new site design is very nearly finished with just a few little bits to fix. It’s a lot simpler than the current one, to look at and behind the scenes, and if you want a preview then feel free to take a look — some of the links point to the current design and, as it’s a work in progress, things are likely to change, move or disappear completely.

I’ve sort of got used to the design of your site and while I like the new design it’s very different. Think it will be a grower, and soon after you launch it for real I will be wondering why I even considered liking the current one better. In fact in the last 10 minutes it’s already growing on me. - stonysleep
