“Sanctuary” by Simon Webbe
1
Readers from Europe may know Simon Webbe as one of the members of former boy-band Blue - they split up some time in the not-to distant past and each seems to be trying to make it as a solo artist/TV presenter/reality TV star.
I didn’t dislike Blue’s music but it wasn’t exactly what I’d normally listen to - it seemed they all could sing well enough and they came across as perfectly likeable people when being interviewed.
When I heard a couple of songs from this album on one of the music channels on the TV, I was mildly surprised that I liked them - I’ve never really thought of myself as a fan of soul music/R & B or whatever it gets labelled lately. Saying that, though, I do like The Lighthouse Family - theirs is the sort of music that relaxes me virtually every time I hear it: easy music and smooth vocals. I’m not just labelling all the music I like that features black vocalists as the same, but quite often the sound is similar so it does usually get lumped into the same category.
I half-assumed that I’d like two or three songs on this album but, as it turned out, he’s done some seriously good stuff - I don’t know how much of a part he had in the writing/arranging/playing process, but the guy can sing.
I can definitely recommend a listen if you’re even mildly into this sort of music.
It can be bought in the iTunes Music Store or from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.

You know… when I first heard his songs I thought it sounded very ‘light-house-familyish’ as well. Strange that.
Not my type of music at all tho. - Andyk
