I’m smiling again
10
And this time it’s a BIG smile. Why am I smiling? Because yesterday I got a ‘phone call from my occupational therapist, Pat (who is worth twice her weight in gold), and she informed me that I had the funding for my super-duper bed passed: they’re going to buy it for me! To say that I’m pleased by this is a bit of an understatement.
In other news, my nephew passed his driving test on Tuesday, so the roads in Britain are a bit more dangerous …
wh00t!!! Now that’s terrific, Tim! I’m so glad for you! You’ll get so comfy, you’ll never ever come out of bed from now on!
Nah jez kiddin’ otherwise you wouldn’t be looking to buy an iMac G5 next, you’d buy a laptop! :^P
And about your nephew, I’m glad we have a big huge pond between us… 8^0 - MHC
Previously I did consider getting an iBook and keeping my iMac G4, rather than swapping it for an iMac G5, because I need to put my foot up during the day and the soon-to-be-new bed will facilitate that and an iBook would allow me to carry on my computery shenanigans at the same time.
That was until Front Row was unveiled …

This bed thing.. lets see if I’m getting it right. You love your bed and hate getting up in the morning, so you’re getting a bed that actually throws you out when it’s time to get up! Maybe I need one of these for my 14yr old son! (and the comparisons don’t end there either.. :-)) - tugger
In January my work are offering a scheme to give us vouchers for PC World and we pay it back out of our wages before tax.. thus getting a good discount.. the only problem is that PC World is the most expensive place to buy anything (especially macs) and their after-sales care and knowlege is godawful. Anyway, this has made me look at mac laptops again with a view to buy so firstly my iBook may be up for grabs if you want it, and secondly do I go for the new G4 powerbook 15” or wait for the notoriously unreliable and hot intel chip version to come out in Feb..?? - Anonymous
Tugger: sounds weird for me, I know, but at least this way I can a) get into and out of bed when I want and not when N dictates (she has a habit of going shopping at 8.30am) and b) going for a whizz in the middle of the night and c) impressing the ladies …
Anonymous: Thanks for the offer, but I’d prefer to get a brand new iBook - I’m a fussy bugger. If it were me, I’d got for the G4 PowerBook and avoid the Intel Macs until all the creases are ironed out. PowerPC Macs will still be supported for a long time to come yet. - Timmargh
LOL! Like the comment about the roads will be more dangerous, in reference to you’re nephew passing his driving test.
Great news about the bed. This’ll be a stupid question but…. do you reckon it’ll come in time for Christmas?
Knowing funding though, it’s a daft question isn’t it. Well, ya never know. - Justin R
It’s not a stupid question, but unfortunately it won’t come in time for Christmas - the salesman who demoed the bed said they’re made in Germany and it’ll be 4 to 6 weeks between order and delivery. - Timmargh
Well then… This just means you’ll start the New Year with a bang! Or rather a new super duper bed!
:^D - MHC
My partners mum needs a rotoflex bed and if anyone could help me on how to get funding for it i would be most grateful - oh and she needs an electric wheelchair too - MS and can hardly move now
thankyou - Chris
Hi, Chris.
Have you tried contacting an occupational therapist? I get most of my equipment through my O.T. You should be able to get contact details from you doctor’s surgery. Also, you can get wheelchair assistance from The Wheelchair Service.
You should be able to at least get help and advice from those two departments; I’m not sure what benefits you’d need to be on to qualify for funding - I get the middle rate care component and high rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance ( http://www.dwp.gov.uk/lifeevent/benefits/disability_liv_allowance.asp ) so you can check if your partners mum is eligible for that if she isn’t already getting it.
Please feel free to email me (click on ‘Contact’, above) if you need more help or advice - I can’t guarantee I will be able to help but I’m willing to try! - Timmargh
