The Shawshank Redemption
2
This film is without a doubt my favourite - it’s just one of those films you can watch over and over again … and I often do.
For those of you who haven’t seen it: it’s the story of Andy Dufresne (played by Tim Robbins), a banker, who gets tried and convicted for the murder of his wife and her lover - he protests his innocence, naturally, but gets two life sentences to be served back-to-back in Shawshank prison.

The main part of the story is about him and his life over the years on the inside - there are several subplots, however, including:
- his friendship with Red (played by Morgan Freeman), the prison ‘fixer’ (“If it exists on the outside world, I can get it for you”);
- his struggle against “The Sisters” - a gang of bull-queers who have a habit of raping inmates;
- his dealings with and work he does for Mr. Norden, the warden.

The film stirs up all the right emotions: you love the good guys, hate the bad guys, and you really want Andy to be innocent.
If you like drama and can sit through a film that doesn’t have any explosions, shoot-outs, chase scenes or computer effects then watch it - I promise that you won’t regret it.

Shawshank is my favorite movie as well. It never gets old to watch.
